Rock Cycle
The Rock Cycle: processes and products
Icebreaker activity: rock cycle processes and products
A sets of specimens and images representing the products
of the rock cycle is provided for each small group:

Groups arrange these products around a diagram of
the cycle, and see them in relation to the processes involved:

This provides an opportunity to:
- reinforce differences between the three major groups of rocks
(sedimentary, igneous, metamorphic) and the processes that form
them
- introduce names of rock types (e.g. "gabbro", "schist",
"conglomerate")
- relate processes and products to the cycle as a whole
This activity provides an introduction to a sequence of practical
activities demonstrating rock cycle processes (menu on right).
